So I decided to use microsoft clipchamp to create this projection video. I had never really worked with any other video editing software before so I just used clipchamp as it was already installed on my laptop. Luckily, I realized that Clipchamp is very easy to work with.
There is a library of video clips, sounds, and effects where you can search for certain keywords, like in this case „thunder“, „lighting“, „storm“ etc. Through this library I already had a base of clips and sounds which I then topped with some more clips I imported from the internet.

I was able to drag and drop the clips into the timeline and adjust them in the way I liked. I also added different filters and sound effects on top of my existing clips and tried to create smooth transitions between them.

I know that there is probably more professional video editing softwares out there but I personally enjoyed working with Clipchamp and I think it was more than enough for what we needed. The only issue I found was a small green stripe on the right edge of the video that appeared after I exported it. But luckily, we were able to get rid of it.

The Logo, Type and Colour palette:
I am not a graphic designer so for me it was something completely new to work on a logo or create a brand in general. My general concept was that I wanted to show two worlds coming together and becoming one. I wanted to keep it simple and use a professional looking, clear font and use orange as a dominant colour.

Visual Research:
Before doing any specific visual research on the possible look of my digital artifact, I looked at some successful logo designs to get some inspiration. I wanted to work with warm colours to make users feel welcome and confident using the website. Warm colours usually convey happiness, passion and warmth (Iakovlev, 2025). Additionally, based on my competitor analysis, I was looking at different sans fonts.

I also did some visual research on the main competitors „Arrive“ and „Integreat“:

My visual research helped me to get an idea of how the market currently looks like, what makes a logo successful and what was important for me to incorporate into my branding.

The colours which are used in their logo, favicon and app-icon can be found throughout all pages of the website and app. They use each colour to represent one topic. For example the topic „Living in Germany“ is turquoise, „Asylum, Apprenticeship, Job“ is yellow and so on. Through this method they are keeping a structure which is understandable for everyone. Furthermore, the logo is more recognizable as the same colours are used repeatedly and the logo acts as both favicon and app-icon as well.

They are using a simple and easy to read font type, it could be „source sans pro“ (suggested by ChatGPT). The accessible and clean font type suits the purpose of the app as a governmental service.

Like many apps or services developed by a government body, „Ankommen“ does not have the most outstanding design and branding strategies from my point of view. On the one hand both the website and the app are not really interactive, fun to use or look at. But on the other hand, they keep it simple and structured which is the most important when creating a service which is mostly used by people who are struggling to understand the language. This is despite the fact that the articles are extremely long in my opinion, which counteracts the accessibility of the simple design choices.
Through this short analysis I learned how you can use colours to create structure and that easy to read sans fonts suits a website provided by a government body.

I was quite nervous before our first CAD lesson here. I felt like I just got the hang of using Fusion 360 in Ireland. We don´t use CAD in secondary school back in my home country Germany, so I was a total beginner before and I did not feel ready to learn a completely new software now.
And like I feared, learning to use Rhino was a horrific experience the first few weeks. The commands and general layout are totally different from Fusion and our teacher loves talking very quietly and go through the steps like we are running a marathon. I just did not understand the basic principles and even when naviagting the space through dragging or rotating the object, I would always use the mouse clicks I was used to from Fusion, which don´t work in Rhino.

I would say only now, after almost 3 months of CAD classes, I feel more convident using Rhino. So far we learned how to create objects in the standard space and make technical drawings. We are also using the SubDivision space, where you can create and form objects by pulling and pushing points or surfaces of an object.
Surprisingly, I feel like nowadays I might actually choose to create a product in Rhino instead of Fusion if I had to choose.

I think it can be very useful to know how to use Rhino in the future since it is the standard CAD software in my companies. I am very glad that I feel more convident with it now, because over the last weeks I had many moments where I doubted this would ever happen. I am interested to see which one of the two softwares I will prefer in my work life.
